Re: Baldwin 18C design progresssion/performance & questions

James,

I was checking through the posts that have not been replied to and came across yours. I really wish I knew half of what you know about the 8-18C. Have you ever been able to find the answers to the questions you posted?

Re: V&T wooden ore cars

Andrews post got me to thinking about the problem I was working on when I left off. There is very little detail on how the center beams and coupler attachment works but I can see beams that appear to be on the centerline. I cant figure out what they might be for other than as a stiffener or to keep ...

Re: V&T wooden ore cars

Andrew,

A truly wondrous find! I really appreciate you posting this as this and the other cars at the Delaware website show great detail on the assembly techniques of the era.

I have been distracted from working on the V&T cars for a month or so now but hope to get back to them soon.

Re: V&T wooden ore cars

The rock work is in place and quite a bit of wood debris remains. We drove most of the way but the lar...

By the way, you can find the original drawings I am quoting from in Bruce A. MacGregor's book "Narrow Gauge Portrait South Pacific Coast.

Hi Andre, This is from the original drawings by Thomas Carter: The inside sheathing is 1x6T&G Floor looks like it is shiplap 2 1/2 x 8" Roofing is a double layer of boards with two half round rain grooves routed in. they are overlapped so any leakage will supposedly drain out the groove.
