Gentlemen,

Thank you! Seems for every question we answer six more are generated. Why the OR&L would order freight cars from any east coast company is a mystery. There were plenty of west coast manufacturers to choose from and the shipping had to have been less expensive.

Found that the correct company name is "The Lobdell Car Wheel, Tire & Machine Co.". Located in Wilmington Deleware and in operation as a wheel manufacturer 1830 - 1867. Michael, Since there are none of the original OR&L Carter cars in existance it's impossible to say whether or not thay had intakes. None of the period photos shed any light on this question.
