Since I lobbied to have a Central America/Mexico catagory, I thought Id share pics of a few recent trips south of the border: After four years of negotiations, letters and emails (I even offered the guard at the gate $50! to take a few pics) I was given permission to visit the site of the Cananea Consolidated Copper Co. for a very brief visit. The 4Cs, as it was called, once had a small narrow gauge empire with almost 40 miles of track, passenger service and about a dozen locomotives. Gordon Chappell recently did a two part article on it in the NG&SL Gazette:

El Minero, I heard there were one or two steam engines still there. Are they gone?

One of the standard gauge locos, Alco# 31854 is still there. One of the narrow gauge locos, #8 is in a museum in Southern Mexico, I have a theory on what became of the other two locos that were listed as standby as late as 1973: Before I go as far as propogating another lost locomotive story, there is an outside chance that they may still exist. kinda. intentionally vague.
