Virginia & Truckee Railroad Documents from UNR.

Known as the "Silver Queen of the shortlines", The Virginia & Truckee Railroad operated their own narrow gauge subsidiary: the Carson and Colorado. Additionally the railroad and its officers would be an influence to many narrow gauge and shortline railroads throughout Nevada and California.

A few months back Randy and I took at a trip to University Nevada, Reno to look through V&T records relating to equipment paint. While there we found a few additional items, of particular note was the Tonnage Blotter Journal of 1881 (NC427 Vol. 309). Despite the name given to the book by UNR, its contents were unexpected. This particular ledger contains record of what tools and equipment were assigned to the locomotives on the line from approx 1878 - 1880. 25 pages into the ledger were some unexpected notes from 1881 recording blacksmith shop time for outside work, including the B&B and C&C. These pages describe forgings made, particularly bolt sizes. Though the B&B pages include castings for two turntables and 3 smoke stacks. I had copies of the ledger made and with permission from UNR we have now listed these pages for download (in PDF form) on the B&B and C&C pages.

The remainder of the volume will be combined into a PDF in the coming weeks and sent off to Kent for download on his V&T site.

I've uploaded another PDF of documents from UNR, this time:

NC 427/8 Box 152: Virginia & Truckee Railroad Records, Correspondence on sale of locomotive to Towle Brothers Lumber Company, 1902.
This PDF includes two pages of correspondence from the George W. Towle discussing their purchase of V&T first #25.
Now available on the Towle Bros. Lumber Co. page.
