My apologies to Dave Peterson for borrowing his meme. winking smiley

The Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Historical Society descended upon Hawthorne, Nevada last week (May 27-31) for the annual conference. This year we toured Mina, Belleville and Sodaville. I don't normally do "then and now" photographs but the Mount Diablo Mill is one of my favorite industries along the C&C. The top image was taken by James H. Crockwell around 1888-1889 and held by UNLV. In the photo we see C&C flat #18 (later SP 1A) and two of the lines Salt cars, upgraded from standard flat cars for hauling salts from the Rhodes marsh to the mills in Candelaria and also the Mt. Diablo Mill in Sodaville.

Andrew,

A very nice before and after. I find the comparisons very interesting.
