Update information for SP ng HS conference

Postby Brian Norden » Fri Apr 19, 2013 10:58 pm

We have some updated information about the upcoming Southern Pacific Narrow Gauge Historical Society conference in Tonopah. The conference has events over the days of May 2 (Thursday) through May 5 (Sunday).

First, we have location information about the "meet and greet" event on Thursday evening. There is no planned program this evening. This is our informal time to have a meal and meet your fellow SPngHS members and renew acquaintances. It is also a time to begin getting your conference name tags.

This well be in the restaurant of the Tonopah Station Casino & Hotel -- our base hotel for the event. The starting time is 5:00 pm and continue through the evening meal time. This is individual settlement for your meal and drinks.

Second, we have reversed the daytime events.
On Friday we will visit locations in Tonopah including the Tonopah Historic Mining Park and the Central Nevada Museum.

Evening meal is on your own. Afterwards we will have presentations including one by Jim Price that will help set the scene for the Saturday field trip.

On Saturday we will have our field trip to Goldfield to visit this interesting town and railroad locations. This car-pool trip will be lead by Jim Price who resides part-time in Goldfield and is interested in its history and its railroads. Lunch will be included and will be a pizza buffet supplied by one of the establishments in Goldfield.

Again, the evening meal is on your own. Afterwards we will have the Society's annual membership meeting. This will be followed by more presentations.

Third, we have information about our presentations. Here are what we have planned at this time:
Field Trip orientation by Jim Price
"Narrow Gauge Equipment of the Tonopah RR" by Brian Norden
"California Cars to Nevada" by Randy Hees
"The Eureka & Palisades" [the other Mill's narrow gauge in Nevada] by Greg Maxwell
We hope to have:
"the 20th Century Railroads of Central Nevada: rails to Tonopah & Goldfield" by Dave Garcia

And even at this date we may have one or two to add.
