Nevada Short Line #1

Post by Solomani » Sat Oct 20, 2012 10:25 am

I grew up spending time prospecting with my Dad and we spent a lot of time in the Star range in which the Nevada Short Line ran up from Oreana up through Rochester canyon to Nenzel hill. Our mine was the next canyon north in Limerick canyon and I still have part ownership of the mine there. We dId not take the road over to Rochester very often as it had washed out and was difficult to go up that canyon. So with all that history for myself in the area I have an interest in the Nevada Short Line Railroad. I had never seen much information on the little road as it did not last long. The longest write up I have seen is in Myricks "Railroads of Nevada."

Anyone here at PacificNG know the paint history on this locomotive or where I might find more info? I am thinking of hunting down one of those Bachmann locomotives.

Nevada Short Line #1 (first), Baldwin c/n 4562 was built for the Utah Northern as their #13. #1 came to the NSL by way of the Golconda & Adelaide RR. The Nevada Short Line's #2, Porter c/n 1026 came to the NSL from the Hobart Estate Co. This Engine was built for Hobart predecessor, Sierra Nevada Wood and Lumber Co, #2 (Crystal Bay RR). Utah Northern #13 came painted Olive Green and color, style 49, finish d-1.

Hi Greg,

Thank you for the detail. Any known photos of it in it's Utah Northern livery?

John,

If you have a copy of the Colorado Rail Annual #15, the is a picture of UN #13 on page 73. There is a much better shot of sister #11on page 52, pretty much as delivered.

Futz... turns out I don't have that issue but I do have an extra Colorado Rail annual #13 if anyone wants to trade.
