While working on the article for the E&P, I found a newspaper report from the Sacramento Union
There were shipped to the other side of the mountains Saturday morning, five flat cars and one hand car for the Eureka and Palisades Narrow Gauge Railroad Company. The flat cars were about 5 feet in width and 22 feet long. They were manufactured by the Kimball Manufacturing Company, San Francisco.(Sacramento Union 1/12/1874 )
These would be the first flat cars on the railroad. It appears that 6 more arrived by July, those likely from Billmeyer and Small.

Re: Kimball Flat cars for E&P
There may have been a total of 12 Kimball flat cars delivered. As stated, the Sacramento Daily Union of Jan 12, 1874 reported that five cars had passed through Sacramento. There was also a piece in the Daily Alta California of December 14, 1873 about Kimball building cars for the E&P. It was reported by several sources that as early as Jan 16, (Eureka Daily Sentinel) that 12 flat cars were on hand at Palisade. 12 cars were also reported in the Salt Lake Herald (1-18) and the Railroad Gazette (1-30).
