Perhaps instead of lag screws, they are draw bolts, with the nuts in a pocket mortise in the cross member. The use of draw bolts of various styles was used often in narrow gauge wood car construction.

Re: Eureka & Palisade B&S cars
Thanks Greg. The car in John Robinson's drawing looks very similar to the photos of E-N #203 in 1937 or 1938. In addition, the trucks under one of the stock cars and under the box look like Billmeyer & Small trucks, with the spring pack box under the truck bolster.

Eureka & Palisade B&S cars
With the information being posted about the E&P/E-N cars and locomotives, I am interested in what happen to the box car body that John Robinson measured and photographed in the early 1970s. The photos and a drawing of a E&P/E-N 24'x7' boxcar was published in the May 1972 Finelines magazine. The car ...

Re: N-C-O, SP, PC, & OR 4-6-0
Here are copies of the drawing card list for N-C-O #11 and 12. These were photographed from the microfilm at the Pennsylvania State Archives. If the DeGolyer collection was indexed by the card numbers instead of the later assigned and penciled on drawing number, it would be easy to see if they have ...

Re: Cortez Mining LTD
On Google Earth, the photo labeled 1890 gold mine is a picture of the remains of the mill and smelter site. The photo called Cortez adobe is somewhat close to the old town site. These are a mile or two southeast of the present day Cortez gold mine. From a southerly angle, there is a curved ravine or...

Re: Cortez Mining LTD
Myrick refers to the Cortez mines as being near Tenabo instead of on the southwest slope of Tenabo Mountain. Tenabo was a separate mining camp about 12 miles to the north northwest of Cortez. The mill and smelter that shows in photos was to the north and above the town. "Romancing Nevada's Past" by ...

Re: Carrizo Plain Narrow Gauge
In this time of year in 2006 I worked along Temblor Ridge and in the Carrizo Plain doing roadway surveys for the BLM. I would characterize the "plain" or valley as being dry grassland country, not desert and I don't remember there being any camping locations. Open fire would be a real hazard. The he...
