Re: The Los Angeles & Independence Railroad

According to Diebert & Strapac in Southern Pacific Steam Company Locomotive Compendium the two locomotives were built by Cooke in November, 1875. The locomotives became SP 1170 and 1171 in 1891 and then in 1901 became 1205 and 1206. They are listed as scrapped 10-02. there are some photographic imag...

Re: Flat cars sold by SP to NCNG in 1936

I need to make a correction to my statement about the passenger cars. The date of relettering and renumbering the cars is wrong. The date quoted is the date of a letter or memo from A. T. Mercier to the car clerks noting the new numbers of the three passenger cars. Mr. Mercier was then the General M...

Flat cars sold by SP to NCNG in 1936

I was going though the page copies I have of the SP car record book covering the NG from 1930 to 1960. I found that the SP sold six flat cars to the NCNG on 3/24/36. These were flat cars 56, 111, 120, 143, 501 and 505. This is close to two years from when the NCNG bought the three passenger cars fro...

Re: Keeler Ca. loading dock

I have a set of valuation maps of the California portion of the line from the late 1930s. Some of the title blocks have a revision/updated to date of Dec 31, 1932. But this seems wrong -- for one thing the property tables have documents or agreements dating to as late as 1939, and they show the engi...

Re: Keeler Ca. loading dock

I have no information. But, I have some observation and comments. It looks to be at about flat car height. So, it could not have been used for dumping material into a gondola. I have seen some photos of a crawler (tracked) derrick or shovel being shipped from Owenyo to Keeler. Maybe this heavy built...

Re: Utah Construction

I don't have any roster information. But, you will find a whole bunch of search results for "Utah Construction Company" at the Mountain West Digital Library. Here is a page from the BYU website that links to a collection guide: BYU But the holder of the company records is Weber State University, Ste...

Re: D&RGW ALCO built K-28

While not complete plans. the ALCO photo collection has had photographic copies of the general arrangement drawings of the K-28 and the Oahu locomotives. These provide the major dimensions of the configuration; but, not the details of the fabrication, etc. I think that I purchased these years ago wh...

Re: Air brake system on C&C/SPng/NCNG #7 engine

Hi, Well I've returned from my travels and I checked out my collection of Westinghouse Air Brake instruction pamphlets. The diagram below is from Instruction Pamphlet No. 5027 dated February, 1909. This is for "The Combined Automatic and Straight-Air Locomotive Brake Equipment Schedules SWA--SWB." T...
