California \ Las Casitas Railway

Las Casitas Railway.

T he Las Casitas Condominiums, located in San Francisco’s Russian Hill district, were constructed in 1937. Built up the steep slope of Russian Hill, the condominiums are home to the “Las Casitas Railway”, a Hillevator used to ferry residents of the complex up and down the steep slope. Though the technology is not unique in the Russian Hill district, as several Hillevators can be found nearby, the Las Casitas Railway is notable for operating a brightly painted car, lettered for the Las Casitas Railway.
